Bulletin 2004
Application
1996-2004 Nissan Pathfinder/Frontier/Xterra
Overview
When a trouble code for an oxygen sensor is set in the powertrain control module it is imperative to do your due diligence in proper diagnosis as many of these Nissans will not need an oxygen sensor replacement to eliminate the trouble code.
Procedure
Nissan has discovered that certain model years have had unneeded oxygen sensor replacement for trouble codes pertaining to oxygen sensor issues. Improper diagnostics can lead to expensive, unneeded parts replacement. Nissan Technical Service Bulletin NTB99-004B will describe in detail the proper testing of the ground circuit of the oxygen sensor and how to remedy these codes without the need of oxygen sensor replacement. This bulletin will explain how to perform a voltage drop test on the ground circuit to find possible high resistance to ground. This will also explain how to install a replacement ground lead harness to create an optimal path to ground to make the proper repair if needed.
