Losing coolant with no visible leak?

No puddle does not mean the coolant stayed in the cooling system. Here is one place worth checking before you keep topping it off.

2010 Ford Fusion Sport · 3.5L V6 · Internal-leak case, not a diagnosis for every coolant-loss complaint

Start here

Check the engine oil level and condition as well as the cooling system. In this Fusion, the oil is overfull and discolored. GoTech identifies coolant entering the crankcase—a finding that changes the next step from topping off to getting the leak and engine condition assessed.

The quick check GoTech does here

  1. Start with the complaint.

The customer keeps adding coolant. GoTech reports no drips on the ground, no smoke at the tailpipe and no coolant smell from a visible hot external leak.

  2. Verify the loss, then check the oil.

The presenter says this system is leaking and recommends pressure testing when the equipment is available. Follow the vehicle’s pressure-test procedure and limits on a cooled system; the video does not show a complete pressure test or provide a universal pressure setting.

  3. Look at level and condition together.

The dipstick in the video is overfull and the oil has a milky-looking discoloration. Those observations, alongside the coolant-loss complaint, are why GoTech investigates coolant entering the crankcase.

What the observation establishes—and what it does not

Do take this seriously

Coolant loss with overfull, contaminated-looking oil calls for prompt assessment. The presenter explains the risk to lubrication and engine bearings. Do not keep treating it as a routine top-off.

Do not buy a pump from color alone

This short video identifies an internal-leak concern and explains the Fusion’s pump arrangement. It does not document every isolation test, prove the cause on another engine or clear this engine of damage.

What to do with the result

  1. Oil is overfull or appears contaminated.

Stop the top-off-and-keep-driving routine. Arrange prompt diagnosis of the leak path and engine condition. A pump repair plan also needs to address contaminated oil and any resulting damage; a new pump alone is not that assessment.

  2. Oil looks normal.

This particular clue is absent. It does not prove there is no leak, and it does not rule out every internal leak. Continue the vehicle-specific cooling-system diagnosis rather than using this short case as a complete checklist.

  3. The vehicle has a different engine.

Identify its cooling-system and pump arrangement first. The demonstrated chain-driven internal pump is not a layout you can assume from “Ford,” “Fusion” or the coolant-loss symptom alone.

When the diagnosis points to the Fusion’s internal pump

GoTech has a separate 2010 Fusion 3.5L pump-and-timing-chain repair demonstration. Use it to understand the work after the fault and repair scope are established. Matching the model and engine does not prove the two videos document the same vehicle.

Does no white smoke rule out an internal leak?

No. This case concerns coolant entering the crankcase, not a visible tailpipe-smoke diagnosis. The absence of smoke did not explain where the coolant was going.

Does this prove I have a bad head gasket?

No. The source discusses an internal water-pump leak path on this Fusion. It does not provide a head-gasket test or establish the cause on your vehicle.

What this guide covers

A short diagnostic tip, not a complete leak-isolation or engine-damage assessment. The pressure-test result and cause are narrated; a full test record and post-repair result are not shown.
