1. Match the parts before disassembly
Motorcraft HUB353 / Ford CL3Z-1104-M: catalog candidate for part-time 4WD and base payload. Confirm the actual truck with Ford’s catalog. No blanket fitment for 2WD, 4A, Raptor or other payload packages.
- 1 confirmed hub assembly; Ford lists sensor ring and wiring with HUB353.
- 1 new axle nut and 4 new hub bolts. Confirm box contents and order hardware separately if needed.
- 2013–2014: 2 new brake-bracket bolts per side, per Ford TSB 20-2278. For 2011–2012, confirm renewal and thread-treatment requirements.
- Correct lubricant; inspect the dust cap, IWE and axle before adding replacement parts.
Confirmed hub / hardware numbers: ___________________________________________
2. Record the specifications you will use
Axle nut needs confirmation: GoTech demonstrates 30 ft-lb; public Ford procedure copies differ (20 versus 30 ft-lb). Resolve the current specification for the truck and hardware before starting. Do not choose by socket size.
| Fastener | GoTech demonstration | Your confirmed spec / source |
|---|---|---|
| 4 hub bolts — new | 129 ft-lb | ______________________ |
| Axle nut — new | Check above | ______________________ |
| ABS harness bracket | 106 in-lb | ______________________ |
| Brake bracket to knuckle | 184 ft-lb | ______________________ |
| Wheel nuts | Year-specific manual | ______________________ |
Separate caliper-to-bracket bolts: 27 ft-lb in GoTech’s guide, only if removed. They are not the bracket-to-knuckle bolts. The full guide links the Ford manuals and explains all application limits.
3. Check the assembly and the outcome
- □ Truck securely supported; removed caliper supported independently of its hose.
- □ IWE/axle splines engaged before tightening; never use the nut to pull misaligned parts together.
- □ Fasteners checked; dust cap seated; ABS connector and routing clips secured.
- □ Brakes and wheel fastened; firm brake pedal restored before moving.
- □ Safe road recheck: original noise, ABS/traction warnings and 4WD operation assessed.
